OUR
STORY
How it started:
In the words of Alex Hay, one of our co-founders,
"While home for the holidays, I received a thoughtful gift: a t-shirt bearing a hand-embroidered carabiner, created by my sister. It perfectly encapsulated her thoughtfulness and showed that she wanted to share in the things I love.
I immediately thought of sporting the cute carabiner on a beanie. Who doesn't love dad jokes, I mean, carabeanie? I joked to my father about getting embroidery thread to attempt my first carabeanie. My dad pun-ishingly noted that embroidery floss could be called climbing thread. I matter-of-factly stated, 'If you climbed on thread you'd be dead'. He corrected me, 'No, threads. As in, clothing'. Proof that my dad is the most hip in the family. Thus an idea was hatched. My dad practically dared me to buy the URL climbingthreads.com, which I did that night.

A few weeks later,
inside a tent on a windy, cold night near Joshua Tree National Park, I scrounged a needle and thread from the bottom of a dirt-covered duffel bag, and quickly grabbed a carabiner from my climbing bag. Headlamp on full blast, I stitched out a vague impression of a carabiner on my beanie. A second grader could have shown me up, but I was so proud of my handiwork that I wore it around Joshua Tree for a full day.

How it's going:

Together, my friend Tia and I partnered with others who love the outdoors to bring to you this idea-- a company created by climbers, that encourages you to push harder, go farther, give more, and be good to yourself and the earth. Because we know that if you’re reading this, you have personality and your clothes should too.
At Climbing Threads, we create products that help people show love for what they do, and love what they wear. Our vision is to have an outlet for witty products that appeal to climbers. We would love for you to be part of our journey.
